Pirramimma 1892 Shiraz

December 21st is the shortest day of the year and the first official day of winter – the perfect time for some cozy cuisine.

For me, there is nothing more comforting than a bowl of creamy tomato soup, a grilled cheese sandwich and a glass of bold red wine. This weekend I tried out a recipe from earls THE COOKBOOK for Cream of Tomato Soup and it was delicious. It paired well with classic grilled cheese and a glass of the Pirramimma 1892 Collection 2018 Shiraz. This wine landed at BC Liquor Stores in October and it’s already become a repeat buy for me.

Pirramimma 1892 Collection 2018 Shiraz ($27.99 BC Liquore Store)

Pirramimma is located in McLaren Vale, Australia. They made the 1892 Collection in honor of the Clydesdales that toiled their land from 1892 to 1952. These horses now rest in peace in their War Horse Vineyard.

After three hours in the decanter there are aromas of dried cherry, black plum, vanilla, licorice pastels, blackcurrant and cedar. This is dry, full bodied wine with medium acidity and tannins. Warming alcohol is evident on the palate. The palate is rich and concentrated offering floral notes of carnation, dried blackcurrant, black cherry, black plum, dried fig, vanilla, liquorice and clove, with hints of pepper on the lingering finish.
