Upper Bench 2016 Altitude

Upper Bench Winery & Creamery recently released the second vintage of Altitude, which is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards were cropped low for this vintage, at just over three tons per acre. The wine spent 20 months in French oak barrels (30% new) and only 320 cases of this wine were produced.

Normally Altitude retails for $40, but given our current situation, Upper Bench recognizes that a lot of people do not have that kind of money to spend on a bottle of wine. Therefore, for a limited time, they are offering the 2016 Altitude for $28, which is exceptional value.

After two hours in the decanter there are aromas of dried blackcurrant, plum jam on buttered toast, cherry, fennel seed, cedar and new leather. This wine is medium+ in body, with high acidity and medium+ tannins. The palate is concentrated and fresh. There are flavours of blackcurrant, Italian prune plums, cherries, eucalyptus and dried herbs with a lingering finish.
