What is one of your favourite holiday traditions?
I enjoy visiting the festive light display at the Burnaby Village Museum or listening to Festive Cantatas at The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.
I recently tried the 2015 Poplar Grove Syrah which, in itself, is very festive; it is like Christmas in a glass!
This wine has a pronounced nose and, after three hours in the decanter, there are aromas of stewed black cherries, prunes, blackberry jam, molasses and clove, with hints of pepper and cedar.
This is a full bodied wine with medium acidity and medium, velvety tannins.
The palate offers cedar, pepper and warming heat, followed by prunes, dried blackcurrants and dried black cherries, with clove, nutmeg and leather on the long finish.
This wine would be perfect to savour in front of a fire. It drinks very well as soon as you pop the cork, therefore, in retrospect, I would allow this wine to develop directly in the glass.
