Origins of Wine: The Golden Mile Bench

In 2015, The Golden Mile Bench became BC’s first officially recognized sub-appellation, or sub-geographical indication. Sub-appellations are linked to unique climates, soil types and the resulting wine styles. The Golden Mile Bench became a sub-region due to its unique placement at the foot of Mount Kobau, outside of Oliver in the Okanagan.

Thursday, April 13, Science World will host an evening of lively conversation about the science behind the Okanagan Valley’s sub-Designated Viticultural Area, with Kurtis Kolt and a panel of BC principal wine makers. Proceeds raised will benefit Science World’s On the Road program, providing thousands of kids living outside the Lower Mainland with the opportunity to experience the magic and inspiration of Science World in their hometown.

The evening will feature tastings from nine Golden Mile Bench wineries, artfully paired with delicacies by Oliver’s Backyard Farm and Miradoro at Tinhorn Creek.
