2016 Zenato Valpolicella Superiore

What was the last wine you tried that made you go rushing back to the wine store for more bottles?

For me, the 2016 Zenato Valpolicella Superior is one of those wines and, at $27.00, it fits into my New Year’s resolution to search out quality wines for under $30.00! If you’re in Ontario (or likely anywhere else in the world) you will probably find this wine for under $20.00.

It is a blend of 85% Corvina, 10% Rondinella and 5% Corvinone. The grapes were harvested by hand and then de-stemmed prior to maceration and fermentation in stainless steel tanks for ten days. The wine was gently pressed-off the skins and aged in oak casks for 12 months.

This Valpolicella is pretty great from the get-go, but my tasting notes were written after 2.5 hours in the decanter.

This wine offers earthy aromas of leather and violet overtop of cherry and vanilla.

The body is medium+ with medium acidity and velvety medium- tannins.

The palate offers perfectly baked sour cherry turnovers, leather and a touch of minerality with a lingering finish.

I also enjoyed this wine, at your recommendation. I am learning to discern the aromas, and tastes of good wines. Thanks Deb!
