Where have you been travelling to in your glass?
Recently I travelled to Sicily where I tasted a wine made from a varietal called Grillo.
The grapes for this wine were grown on bush-trained vines. The vines are on average twenty years old and they grow about one mile from the sea at an elevation of 250 feet. Vines are cropped low at 3.75 tons per acre, and at harvest only the best grape clusters are picked. The grapes undergo a 15-day cold maceration before fermentation with punchdowns and the wine is aged in stainless steel prior to bottling.
The 2017 Feudo Maccari DOP Olli Grillo is springtime in a glass!
This wine offers aromas of wet stone, freshly-mown grass, cherry tree blossoms and lemon.
This is a dry, medium bodied wine with medium+ acidity.
The palate is slightly oily in texture with flavours of almond, lemon juice, lemon rind, lemon curd, grass, honeydew, brine and minerality with a medium finish.
Olli Grillo is available at Marquis Wine Cellars for $27.74. Marquis offers free shipping within British Columbia on orders over $200. Orders less than $200 pay only $12.99 plus tax for shipping.
