August 18th is Pinot Noir Day and there are plenty of ways to enjoy this heartbreak grape. Pinot Noir comes in several forms: red wine, Champagne and even Rosé.
The 2018 Leyda Rosé is made from 100% Pinot Noir grown in the coastal valley of Leyda, Chile. It is the perfect wine to open after you bake a rhubarb almond cake and it is 35 degrees Celsius outside; this Rosé is dry, fresh and juicy.
2018 Leyda Rosé $15.99
(The 2019 vintage is currently on sale at the BCLS for $13.99 until September 5th)
The grapes were hand harvested early to obtain firm, crunchy berries. The whole clusters were then gently pressed using a pneumatic press. After fermentation the wine was aged in stainless steel for seven months, with weekly punch downs to generate creaminess.
The nose offers minerality, nectarine and underripe strawberries. This is a dry, medium body Rosé with medium+ acidity. The palate has grapefruit pith, rhubarb, herbaceous notes and brine, with hints of candied apple and strawberries on the medium finish.
Sounds like there is great value here!
Most definitely! Love finding these gems!
