In Vancouver we have been blessed with sunny weather over the past several weeks. This sunshine is definitely making physical distancing a lot more palatable and also causing me to reach for fresh, white wines.
Vinos Santa Ema was founded in 1956 by Félix Pavone Arbea and the winery is now in the hands of the 4th generation of the Pavone family.
The 2018 Santa Ema Sauvignon Blanc is crafted from grapes grown in vineyards along the Maipo River in Chile. Half of the grapes for this vintage underwent cold maceration, while the other half were whole cluster pressed. The must was fermented in stainless steel for 25 days before bottling.
This Sauvignon Blanc has aromas of fresh asparagus, yellow grapefruit and crushed gravel. It is a dry, medium bodied wine with medium acidity. On the palate there is fresh asparagus, grapefruit pith and minerality with red apples on the medium finish.
