Spring is less than a month away, which means that spring wine releases are just around the corner and I find myself reaching for white wines with increasing frequency.
The 2018 Zenato Lugana San Benedetto is made from 100% Trebbiano and is an excellent pick to toast the imminent (at least here on the west coast) change of season.
Zenato is a family run winery that was started by Sergio Zenato in 1960 in Veneto, Italy. The winery continues today in the good hands of Sergio’s wife, Carla, and his daughter and son, Nadia and Alberto.
After an hour in the decanter the Lugana San Benedetto has aromas of canned peaches, canned pears, lemon and crushed gravel, along with notes of castelvetrano olives and fresh grass.
This wine is medium+ in body and high in acidity.
The palate begins big and round, bursting with sweet blossoms, canned peaches and mandarin, followed by lemon and savoury brine on the mouth watering and lingering finish.
Purchased at Everything Wine, River District for $28.98
Adding this to my wine list.
