This past weekend we picked the apples from our apple tree and I was quick to turn some of them into an apple pie. I have heard that Gewürztraminer is a great pairing for apple pie, and I was anxious to try it out with the 2019 Mystic River Gewürztraminer from Wild Goose.
2019 Wild Goose Gewürztraminer $20.00
This is a small batch, single vineyard Gewürztraminer, that is hand-harvested each year at the Mystic River Vineyard in Oliver, BC.
The 2019 vintage offers aromas of lychee, pear, grapefruit rind, fresh apricot, baking spice and blooming clover. This wine is off-dry with a medium body and medium acidity. The palate has flavours of ripe pear, grapefruit, rose, apricot jam and baking spice with a lingering finish.
Before cutting into the apple pie, we enjoyed some of this wine with dinner. Dinner consisted of homemade chicken tikka with rice, which made a fantastic pairing for this delicious Gewürztraminer! Later we tried the Mystic River Gewürztraminer with apple pie, which brought out the beautiful floral notes in the wine.
Wild Goose Vineyards is currently open daily for tastings and their Smoke & Oak Bistro is open for dining Thursday through Sunday; reservations are recommended.
