I have been drinking a lot more Rosé lately, including the 2019 CedarCreek Estate Pinot Noir Rosé with its notes of cranberry and rhubarb. All this Rosé has me craving rhubarb, so I made Melissa Clark’s Rhubarb Upside-Down Cake, which was featured in the New York Times. I followed the recipe exactly, except that I baked the cake in a 9″ cake pan (instead of a spring-form pan) and I used all-purpose flour (instead of cake flour) because that is what I had on hand; it turned out amazing!
Now onto the wine! The Pinot Noir for this Rosé was harvested early in order to preserve acidity, creating a dry and refreshing Rosé. The grapes were then destemmed and loaded into the press where they had two hours of skin contact before the juice was pressed off. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks and then the wine was aged in stainless steel for three months before bottling.
This Rosé offers aromas of cranberry, hints of grapefruit rind and crushed gravel. The body is medium- and the acidity is high and refreshing. The palate has flavours of cranberry, rhubarb and grapefruit, culminating in a savoury and herbaceous, mouth-watering, medium finish.
This wine has sold out at the winery, but you can still purchase it at Marquis Wine Cellars for $23.39. Cedar Creek also just released their 2019 Platinum Block 1 Pinot Noir Rosé. It is only available at the winery and it can be purchased there for $29.99.
Speaking of the winery, yesterday CedarCreek re-opened for pre-booked tasting experiences. Their Home Block Restaurant, which opened last year to great acclaim, has also re-opened. For those of us still at home until such time that we can travel safely within the province and the country, CedarCreek continues to offer complimentary shipping on all orders.
