Have you visited CedarCreek’s stunning new Home Block Restaurant? It opened just last year to great acclaim, including being awarded one of Air Canada / enRoute Canada’s Best New Restaurants in 2019.
I have not had the opportunity to visit Home Block myself yet, but I have been inspired in the kitchen by their Executive Chef, Neil Taylor. His recipe for grilled asparagus with prosciutto, Marconi almonds, burrata and parsley inspired me to make some pizza this past weekend to pair with the CedarCreek 2019 Sauvignon Blanc.
The pizza that I have photographed below is pesto and burrata. To make it, I spread homemade pesto sauce generously over fresh pizza dough, before adding some chopped, marinated artichokes and firing the pizza onto a pizza stone in a 550° F barbecue for five minutes. As soon as the pizza was done, I removed it from the barbecue and topped it with burrata and arugula.
CedarCreek 2019 Sauvignon Blanc $18.99
The 2019 Sauvignon Blanc was fermented using organic yeast in stainless steel (94%) as well as concrete and oak (6%); the wine spent 3 months on lees in stainless steel before bottling.
This Sauvignon Blanc has a fairly pronounced nose of gooseberry, grapefruit pith, lemon, crushed gravel and grass. It is a dry, medium bodied wine with medium+ acidity and a medium finish. The palate offers gooseberry, grapefruit pith, herbaceous notes, salinity and minerality. A perfect accompaniment for pesto and burrata pizza!
CedarCreek is currently welcoming guests for wine tastings and dining with a reservation. They are also offering free shipping on orders of two bottles or more.
