Charcuterie and Le Vieux Pin Syrah “Cuvée Violette”

This past weekend I stocked-up on wine and plenty of charcuterie items from SPUD.CA.

One of the things that I love most about charcuterie boards is the friends that gather around them…but sadly that won’t be happening this holiday season. So instead, I packaged-up delicious crackers, cheeses and meats and delivered them to our friends doorsteps in the hopes that these care packages would brighten their festive season.

One of my favourite items on SPUD.CA right now is their ‘Brown Bag Selection’ of cheese from Les Amis du FROMAGE. For $20.99 you receive five pieces of surprise cheese. I ordered three of these bags and none of the selections were identical, but all them were delicious.

After putting together the charcuterie boxes, there were still plenty of leftovers to create our own charcuterie board and I paired it with the 2018 Le Vieux Pin Syrah Cuvée Violette.

2018 Le Vieux Pin Syrah Cuvée Violette ($38.49 through spud.ca)

The grapes for this wine were grown in the South Okanagan on vines that are 12-17 years of age. These vines were cropped to 4.7 tons per acre. The wine was aged for 16 months before bottling: 10 months in unlined concrete and oak foudre and 6 months in neutral French oak barriques. This wine is unfined and lightly coarse filtered.

The Syrah Cuvée Violette has aromas of black pepper, blackberry and soft notes of black plum. This is a dry, medium bodied wine with medium+ acidity and medium tannins. The palate is savoury offering black pepper, blackberry, raspberry and dried herbs with a medium finish.

This Syrah paired best with mature cheeses like cave aged gruyere and Red Leicester cheese.
