The 2019 Unoaked Pinot Gris from Hillside Winery has pretty much everything I want in a Pinot Gris. It is a lovely wine to sip on the patio, or pair it with charcuterie, summer salads, or even grilled vegetables and white meat.
2019 Hillside Winery Unoaked Pinot Gris $23.00
The grapes for this wine were grown in Naramata where the primary vineyards are surrounded by fruit orchards. Some of the blocks harvested for this wine were allowed 2-6 hours of skin contact, adding a hint of pale salmon to the colour and bright flavours to the palate. Fermentation was slow and cool in stainless steel tanks, which helped to preserve the fruit aromas. The result of these efforts is an orchard fruit cocktail.
This Pinot Gris offers aromas of peach, green apple and minerality. This is a dry, medium bodied wine with medium+ acidity. The palate is all peaches and pears, with ginger and minerality turning into yellow grapefruit pith, herbs, brine and underripe strawberries on the juicy, savoury, lingering finish.
Hillside Winery is now open for tastings by appointment and The Bistro is open for dinning with a reservation.
