It is not often that I find a wine under $20 that I would buy again, let alone a wine under $10. Enter the 2019 Albis from José Maria da Fonseca, which is on sale for $9.99 (regular $13.49) until August 1st at the BC Liquor Store.
José Maria da Fonseca 2019 Albis
This wine is a blend of Moscatel de Setúbal (Muscat) and Arinto (a grape native to Portugal); fermented in stainless steel, it was bottled in January 2020 without aging.
The 2019 Albis has aromas of blooming clover, apricot and pear. This is a dry, medium bodied wine with medium+ acidity and a medium finish. The palate offers salinity alongside lemon and yellow grapefruit pith, grassy notes, apricot and clover.
The Albis is a great wine to have on-hand this summer. It was lovely on its own, but also paired nicely with a caprese salad. What surprised me the most though, was how well it paired with foie gras and other charcuterie, including a triple cream brie from Bourgogne, which I find a more challenging cheese to pair with wine.
