La Linda Old Vines Malbec

Have you tried La Linda wines before?

La Linda is a label under Bodega Luigi Bosca, which was founded more than 100 years ago. One of its founders, Leoncio Arizu arrived in Argentina from Spain in 1890, settling in the Luján de Cuyo area of Mendoza. Just over a decade later, Arizu partnered with the Bosca family; an Italian family of winemakers from Piedmont, Italy. Together they started what we know today as Bodega Luigi Bosca – Familia Arizu.

The La Linda brand was created by Bodega Luigi Bosca to showcase terroir. The wines are intended to be fresh, fruit forward and to display characteristics typical of each specific grape variety. The La Linda portfolio includes wines made from Chardonnay, Torrontés, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and, of course, Malbec.

I recently had the opportunity to try the La Linda Old Vines Malbec. I paired it with cured meats and aged cheeses, but it would also be a good accompaniment for a grilled ribeye steak.

2024 La Linda Old Vines Malbec $24.99

Made with grapes from vineyards located in Maipú and Lujá de Cuyo. The vines themselves are between 50 and 60 years old and grow at an average of 800 meters above sea level.

The grapes were hand harvested and destemmed. The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts. A portion of the wine was aged in French oak barrels (2nd and 3rd use) before being blended, filtered and bottled.

A shy nose of lavender, prunes, cured meats, dried blackcurrants and black cherries. This is a dry red wine, medium+ in body with medium+ acidity and tannin. The palate offers mineral, saline and prune notes upfront, followed by lavender, cured meats, dried cherries and thyme with a medium finish.
