What’s your favourite brunch menu item?
On the weekend we had fun pairing the Road 13 Spring “Early Bird” Bundle with all things brunch. The Early Bird Bundle consists of the 2018 Marsanne, the 2018 Riesling and the 2018 Viognier. I have to admit that I did not make my own fried chicken, instead we enjoyed delicious, spicy tenders from Popeye’s Chicken. I did however make the waffles from scratch and they turned out really well. The waffle recipe I used comes from Well Seasoned Studio and can be found here.
2018 Road 13 Marsanne $25.99
The 2018 Marsanne (pronounced “mar-sohn“) is a blend of 94% Marsanne, 4.5% Roussanne and 1.5% Viognier. “Hand-harvested, sorted and whole-cluster pressed in October. It was fermented in French oak barrels (20% new), then further aged for 5 months in the same barrels with regular lees stirring to build richness and texture in the final wine. The wine was then blended and aged another 4 weeks in tank before bottling.” (Road 13)
The 2018 Marsanne offers floral aromas followed by notes of bees wax, pine nuts, sweet spice, honeydew, pineapple and peach tea. This is a dry, medium bodied wine with medium acidity. The palate also offers flowers and bees wax, alongside notes of pine nuts, apricots and peaches with a medium finish.
In addition to brunch, I feel this Marsanne would pair well with pasta in a cream sauce, mushrooms, mozzarella, and chicken in a creamy, tarragon sauce.
2018 Road 13 Riesling $20.99
The 2018 Riesling was “gently whole-cluster pressed before 24 hours of cold settling. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at cooler temperatures to keep the wine bright and fruit forward. Fermentation was tested frequently and stopped when the right balance of acid and sugar was reached. The wine was kept very cold after that point to keep it fresh and fruity and to prevent any re-fermentation.” (Road 13)
The 2018 Riesling has aromas of petroleum, lime, green apple and fuzzy peach candies. It is off dry, medium- in body, with medium+ acidity. The palate offers lime, green apple, honeydew and peach with a medium finish.
This Riesling would also make a great pairing for Thai Cuisine.
2018 Road 13 Viognier $25.99
The 2018 Viognier (pronounced “vee-own-yay“) was produced using 100% Viognier from the Road 13 West Osoyoos vineyard. “The fruit was hand-harvested, sorted and pressed before a slow fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve its fresh fruit flavours and aromas. The finished wine was aged for 4 months in French oak barrels which added a rich complexity to this wine.” (Road 13)
The 2018 Viognier has aromas of jasmine, apricot and peach. This is a dry wine that is medium+ in body with medium+ acidity. The palate offers jasmine, apricot, pineapple and peach with a medium finish.
Road 13 is offering complimentary shipping on orders of $60 or more and they have some great new bundles available for your summertime enjoyment.
