I love experimenting with food and wine pairings, but sometimes wines also pair well with activities like baking. The 2017 Medalla Cabernet Sauvignon from Trapiche paired well with baking-up the last of our fall pumpkins. Over the weekend I made a batch of Pumpkin Spice Donut Holes and Pumpkin Scones.
2017 Trapiche Medalla Cabernet Sauvignon $19.95
The grapes for this wine were hand-harvested and then destemmed prior to fermentation and maceration, which lasted 25 days. This wine underwent natural malolactic fermentation, followed by nine months of aging in French and American oak barrels.
The Medalla Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry, fennel and minerality, as well as herbaceous green pepper notes. This is a full bodied wine with medium+ acidity and medium tannins. The palate offers blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry, with tobacco and herbaceous notes creating a savory, lingering finish.
This wine offers great QPR and it would also pair well with braised meats, duck and mature cheeses.
