Fort Berens’ 2024 Here & There Collection: A Wine Making Journey

There is no doubt that the winters of 2023 and 2024 were particularly challenging for wineries in British Columbia, with the winter of 2024 being the most devastating. Fort Berens, located in Lillooet, BC, unfortunately did not escape these winters unscathed. In January 2024, following what began as a relatively warm winter, a cold snap…

High Note Estate Winery

New year, new wines! I am starting the year off with current releases from a winery that opened just last year. High Note Estate Winery is located in Naramata, BC and it was the third winery to open under the umbrella of Montalvino Wineries Inc. Although they have now secured a permanent winemaker, Caroline Schaller,…

Sumac Ridge: The End of an Era

I recently had the opportunity to enjoy a wine that was something of a mystery; a Riesling from Sumac Ridge Estate Winery, located in Summerland, BC. Other than the fact that it was a Riesling that contained around 10% alcohol and it was likely produced for Hatheume Lake Resort, there was no other information on…

The Early Bird Bundle consists of the 2018 Marsanne, the 2018 Riesling and the 2018 Viognier. I have to admit that I did not make my own fried chicken, instead we…

Adega Estate Winery 2018 Riesling

Recently I asked people to tell me about their favourite wine and food pairings, and a number of people said Riesling and Thai food. For me, an off-dry Riesling pairs well with Thai food because the residual sugars soften the spice, while the citrus and orchard fruit flavours compliment the cuisine very well. The inherent,…

WINEMAKER’S CUT: 2019 Boho Beat

2018 Trimbach “Classic” Riesling

Have you ever tried a wine that you were not exactly sure about in the beginning but it won you over in the end? The 2018 Trimbach “Classic” Riesling did that for me. I had this wine stored in the refrigerator and it was far too cold when I first approached it, with little-to-no nose…

2019 Tumble Wines Riesling

The grapes for the 2019 Tumble Wines Riesling were sourced from the Sandbar Vineyard in southeast Kelowna. Grapes were whole cluster pressed before the clean juice was transferred to stainless steel tanks for fermentation. Fermentation was halted early resulting in 11.8% alcohol and residual sugar. With 23 g/L residual sugar, this off-dry Riesling is perfect…
